The Tiangui Goddess takes her name from a classical Chinese medicine term — 天癸 (tiangui) — referring to women's menstrual cycle. To break the taboo that bars menstruating women from visiting temples, I imagined a fictional goddess and designed joss paper carrying her oracle. What was once used to exclude becomes the source of her power.
