Opening Dome Video for Future Vision Lab 2025
Since the birth of the moving image, we have continuously experienced transformations in the devices through which we watch the world — the cinema, the television, the smartphone, the LED wall, and architectural projection. As these technologies evolve, images also mutate: they reshape their own aspect ratios and bodies, while framing how humans see, and how we imagine reality itself. What a Screen! begins with the notion of the ratio. It revisits the sensory experiences shaped by different aspect ratios and technical frameworks throughout the history of images, guiding the audience through a dome where various temporal bodies of the image coexist. Yet, when we look back at this luminous, resonant space, we realize that we remain enclosed within another frame — being watched, contained, and defined by the very image we enter. As the song Await in the work sings: “You’re only fooling kids, but I wait — waiting for your never-coming.” We are forever deceived and distanced by images.The screen promises us entry into its beautiful world, yet we are always left outside —watching the screen, and never within it.
